Bob Bailey's"Plain Talk About Leadership"
Loved Bob Bailey's book, Plain Talk About Leadership. Thought it had info for all endeavors of life. Quick and easy to Read. Loved the Silver Bullets. This book is not only for the business world, but High School students would get value from the book as well. I highly recommend it. Marilyn Bumpus Washington Court House, Ohio

PLAIN TALK requred reading.
Over my 37 year career in business I have read many books on leadership and how to manage a company for success. PLAIN TALK ABOUT LEADERSHIP is more than your typical leadership/management book and it is written by someone that has REALLY run a large company and turned it into one of the most successful in its industry.

Just the fact that the author has "been there and done that" speaks volumes (no pun intended) in my opinion. PLAIN TALK is very well written but more importantly it contains down to earth advice. Advice that has actually worked for the author in real life, and advice that will be of benefit for anyone that wants to imporve their leadership/management skills. Not only does it cover important topics for all managers it contains Silver Bullets at the end of each chapter that serve as easy reminders for those who want to sharpen their leadership/management skills.

PLAIN TALK shoud be required reading for all those who want to be good leaders and managers.

Illustrations in Leadership
Bob Bailey provides many illustrations from his successful career to "hammer home" his points on Foundation of Leadership Being Great Communications. Mr. Bailey reinforces the importance of open, face to face, frequent and repetitive communications in creating an effective organization. I provided copies of this book to all my managers.

I liked the ending! It had a mean twist and I just never thought it would end up the way it did. I'm not going to say what happened..I don't like to be the one to ruin the ending for anyone so, I won't but you have to give this book a chance. You'll be glad you did!

I just couldn't wait!

Summer Without a Dawn
A novel that tells the story of an Armenian Family during the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The story is very well written and immediately captivates its audience. Once you get into it, you won't be able to put it down. It becomes part of you. Once you finish reading it, it will stay with you forever.

THE DEFINITIVE HISTORICAL NOVEL . . .
The Definitive Historical Novel
A Summer Without Dawn is the best and definitive historical novel ever written on the Armenian Genocide during the First World War. Its spirited, vibrant writing, frequent twists and happenings, abundance of events and unusual love stories, ``secrets of the heart`` keep the reader`s interest at the boiling point till the last page. A fabulous read for lovers of good literature and history--one is educated while being entertained. It is bound to become a great classic in its genre. . .

A Great Historical Novel
A Summer Without Dawn is a credit to the historical genre. The authors have created a great beautiful story, providing the reader with long hours of intermingled pleasure and anxiety. This work is quite without parallel in its richness of detail, despite the fact that its action unfolds during the First World War. The storytelling genius of the authors and the romantic plot that is developed with such superb skill forbids the reader to put the novel down until the last page.

Shadow Castle: Expanded Edition

A wonderful part of my childhood
In 1968, my mother bought me a copy of this book---a slender paperback printed and illustrated in green ink. I loved the book, and thirty years later, read the story to my little girl, who LOVED it. Unfortunately, my original copy is yellowed and brittle, and I was reluctant to let my daughter handle its fragile pages as often as she wished.

Imagine my delight when this wonderful book was reprinted. The new version has all the old illustrations, but the ink is black, not the original green. The color illustration from the jacket of the paperback is reprinted inside the new version, but in black and white. Despite these minor changes, I am thrilled to have this old favorite back again.

A bit of the plot: a young girl named Lucy meets a kind, but rather mysterious young man named Michael, who tells her the story of Mika, a fairy Prince who falls in love with a mortal woman. This book contains all of the usual elements in a traditional fairytale---a princess abducted by an unpleasant suitor, goblins, a dragon, enchantments, battles between the forces of good and evil---but it is very different from the impersonal stories in typical fairytale books. Marian Cockrell's characters are vivid and unforgettable, and her story is magical, entertaining, and even humorous in parts.

Give a copy to an eight year old that you love. You won't be sorry.

A 25 year search rewarded!
I first read Shadow Castle nearly 45 years ago, as a young girl. Like other reviewers have noted, it was an instant favorite which I read again and again. It had everything: love, gentleness, and integrity, as well as suspense, revenge, and human stupidity and preconceptions. When I had a child of my own, I started searching for this book to share both the story and a piece of my own childhood. It was as if the book had vanished like the Shadows on a rainy day! For 25 years, I checked in every used bookstore, every children's library section, to no avail. Then, just before Christmas, I typed in the name and found it was back in print! I included a copy with my Christmas order, and I sat down and read it cover to cover the afternoon it arrived. The magic is still there, right along side the goblin dust. Now it will wait patiently in my bookcase until I have a grandchild to share it with. And I am thinking about re-naming the dog Flumpdoria.

It is just as magical as when I was 9.
One Christmas when I was 8 or 9,Santa brought me a wonderful book---Shadow Castle. I am sure through the years I must have read it 100 times. Today I am 60 years old. Like so many others who have reviewed this book, my copy disappeared, and I have searched and searched for a replacement. Just on a chance, I typed in the name on amazon.com,and there it was. Those who have tried to find this book know the feeling that I had after all those years of serious searching. And the book is just as imaginative and romantic as it was when I was a little girl. The first thing I looked for was the picture of Robin and Bluebell. It is just as I remember it. The wonderful ending where the shadows move around is still so excititng. To think that a thousand years and seven days have gone by. What a love story! I shall read it 100 times more, and those times shall be even better because there are grandchildren to read it to.

A Little Piece of Sky

A Little Piece of Sky
I would recommend this book for anyone to read, young or old. I, not being a real "big reader", found this book to be very interesting and entertaining. I found the characters to be very real, and could relate to all of them. Even though the book isn't very long, Nicole Bailey-Williams writes this story's plot very well and keeps you wanting to know what's going to happen next. Once again, I really enjoyed reading this book, and I saw a piece of Sky, and some other characters, in myself.

Poetic Story of Resilience
A Little Piece of Sky tells the story of Song Byrd. Song takes a cautious look back over her life, starting with her earliest relationships and in doing so we read a story of triumph. Song deals with an emotionally unavailable mother and later she struggles with the guilt she feels as a result of her mother's death. When her mother dies, she has to live with her father and his wife and adjust to a completely new, but healthier existence. Unfortunately, the scars of the early part of her life don't just disappear and her half sister and brother are additional reminders of the life she left behind. Even as an adult, Song continues to try to heal her wounds and make a life for herself and recover her lost self esteem. The sky is an important theme in this book and it represents hope. As Song shares her story it becomes clear that just a little bit of hope is often enough to carry a person through the most difficult circumstances.

Nicole Bailey-Williams has made a grand entrance into the literary scene with this spectacular novel. She does an excellent job drawing the reader into Song's world and making them share in her experiences through the short passages of prose. While the format of this book is different from the norm, the author's mixture of literary style and prose proved to be just the right recipe for a stellar debut.

Indian Summer

Wisdom that needs to be known
Hello my DEAREST Linn,

I finally finished your book. I really enjoyed it! I wanted to mention several things.

I found some important messages for myself such as to say 'No' to my daughter when it is necessary without fear that she will stop loving me because I said 'No.'
While I was reading, I was highlighting my most favorite phrases. I wanted to comment on some of them. For example, Mannie said to Toby 'Then take the chance and believe in yourself. Be a dreamer, because dreamers make things happen in life. We spin our dreams into a reality of ourselves.' It is so close to my heart! It helped me in believing of myself in the middle of my career change! I want it to be the slogan of my life and that what I say to my daughter too.

I was just amazed of how Native Americans do 'the soul cleansing.' 'The water is a magnificent cleansing agent for the spirit. It washes away the dirt that is inside you.' 'We are here as I said to cleanse the inner body. This water helps to cleanse away the negativity's we hold inside.' Both these phrases are just what I was feeling intuitively, but I was not sure that it is so deep in meaning. Interestingly enough, the Russian culture, the Finnish culture, and probably other nations' cultures have the same. During the old times, Russian people would use 'banja's to clean their bodies. You needed to sweat in the 'banja' and use the Burch tree leaves to clean your body after sweat. The 'banja' is a small log house with a wooden stove, which makes the air hot. I tried it in Russia. The body felt after all so light like I almost had had not have a weight. (Check my grammar...)

About spelling errors. Being a foreigner, I made constant spelling errors. I read your email with the explanation about the spell check. I think your letter should be attached to the book. It is very interesting detail which makes your book even more special.

Thank you so much for all your wisdom.

Olga

Breathtaking !
When I finally had a chance to sit down and read "Indian Summer", I did not stop reading until I was done with the last page. It was breathtaking, fascinating; what a wise, strong-willed, spiritual, down-to-earth, kind, funny, insightful, righteous woman that Mannie is -- I love her ! The way the bond between mother and son is described throughout the book is so heartwarming -- you feel the strong love they have for eachother. And, although deep down it must have been very hard for her, the tough-love decisions she makes towards her daughter are the right ones, and there is a good lesson for all of us parents to be learned right there ! It is a wonderful story and I thank Linn for sharing it with the world.

Native American Must Read
"Indian Summer" by Linn Bailey reflects the cross culture existence in today's world. Lack of understanding breeds denouncement and the beauty of truths is denied to apathy.
A most interesting story that sends sparks to open us to the magic of crossing the bridge to that which is beyond.
"Indian Summer" is a learning adventure in reading. A must read for Native Americans and people of all cultures. Lynn Lossiah, author "Cherokee Little People"

The Water's Edge

Author: Virginia Bailey Parker
Average review score:

Historical fiction set in the 1600s
"The Water's Edge" is a historical novel set in the 1600's in England and the fledgling colonies of the New World. For those who enjoy a storyline that follows a family or group of families through their daily life this will be a great read. The book follows three families from England to the American colonies as they seek a better life. Using the vehicle of a historical novel Virginia Parker does a masterful job of showing the complex relationships between the Quakers, the Puritans, the Indians, profit seekers, and those whose primary purpose was religious conversion. The reader comes to understand the difficulties of life in the colonies and many of the problems and triumphs to be had there. Become a part of the families as you live their hopes, their dreams, and their realities. A well-done, recommended book for anyone who enjoys fiction based on historical events.

Excellent Reading
I have read the "The Water's Edge" written by Virginia Bailey Parker. It is an excellent story blending fiction with obvious historical information. Providing the family trees was a wonderful way to help keep and sort the cast of characters. Katherine, Mary, Abigail, and Ben were my favorite people. The book ended well, but too soon. I hope Virginia will write a sequel so I can find out where their lives took them.

I passed the book along for others to read. I am hearing that they also have become enthralled with the book.

The Water's Edge
Lovers of historical fiction, particularly stories of early colonial New England, should read The Water's Edge. The author has done a masterful job of blending serious research about the life and times of the era with a story that keeps the reader's attention throughout. One experiences the realities of medical practices of the times, the harsh experience of crossing the Atlantic and features of everyday life such as open hearth cooking. The characters of the three families whose stories are interwoven leave lasting images long after the book is closed.

Homeopathic Psychology: Personality Profiles of Homeopathic Medicine
Published in Hardcover by North Atlantic Books (October, 1995)
Author: Philip M. Bailey
Average review score:

the essences
After being trained in Greece by the master himself, Bailey has expanded on Vithoulkas's essences, giving a thematic overview of the mentality of each type-a useful project considering the mass of particuliars the practioner must know. It does not, as the title suggests, relate these mental states to the entirety of a person's being. Perhaps the closest comparison would be to Coulter and many of his descriptions differ from hers in a useful way, particulary with syphilinum. I guess this will have to do until Vit...'s publication of his entire materia medica vivus.

Riveting!
When I first bought this book (on recommendation from my classical homeopath), I couldn't stop reading it! It gave me a wonderful perspective on the various remedies, as well as a new view of my own constitutional remedy. It was also very interesting to speculate on my family and friends' constitutional remedies based on what I read here. Further, I especially enjoyed reading the numerous amusing anecdotes from the author's own practice.

My only quibble is that the author frequently divides the remedies into male/female manifestations, and the descriptions of the gender less often represented by the remedy can be terse (as a Tuberculinum woman, I was naturally hoping for more info on my type :).

Highly recommended!

Facts and detail, but never dry!
A brilliant book! Every pupil should be given their own copy as a Rite of Passage at around 14 years of age and have to study one or two "types" per week such that the whole book would be covered in a year, and then this should be done every year whilst still at school. They don't have to learn anything about Homeopathy per se, only about people, and in so doing would develop more compassion and understanding of both themselves and others. This would beat any grounding in some of the modern subjects attempting to teach ethics/social behaviour/civics; half an hour a week in the curriculum and a couple of hours reading for a better balanced society! And it would be fun. The teenage pupils would realise that what's going on in their own minds is normal and would be able to understand their peers and elders far better for knowing what makes them tick! But this would probably be too threatening, especially for bureaucratic elders in politics and teaching, and here I'm thinking especially of kali-carbs amongst others! It would also teach the consequences of different behaviours, particularly of bad parenting and expose some dubious management practices for the perverted strategies they really are!

This book is extremely well written and accessible to everyone, while still being of enormous help to the professional. The standard repertories are great for the material body, but now we are entering a different age and there is a dire need for the mental and emotional sides of man to be categorised, understood and, where necessary, healed. Catherine Coulter helped significantly to illuminate the path with her outstanding "Portraits of Homoeopathic Medicines" which I wouldn't be without, Whitmont has written some very interesting books, now I have another brilliant, practical perspective. Here is a practitioner who has studied people's behaviour and homeopathy and really understands it as a living science, based firmly on empirical evidence.

A lovely book, a useful book, an accurate book, a fascinating book.
Well done, sir! Thank you.
Now let me get back to reading it!

Fritz Leiber's Ill Met in Lankhmar
Published in Paperback by White Wolf Publishing Inc. (July, 1996)
Authors: Fritz Leiber and Robin W. Bailey
Average review score:

This work makes live worth living, if only to read it again.
"Ill Met in Lankhmar" contains some of the very finest fantasy stories ever written. A short review such as this cannot even begin to convey their exquisite perfection, their vista-expanding cannon volleys of purest, most unfettered imagination, their sun-core bright wit and ebullience. The writing alone is enough to make one laugh and cry at the same time, such is Leiber's complete mastery of the written word. It is a source of unending mystification to me why so few people these days seem to have read the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser stories. And now, artist supreme Mike Mignola has created a new set of covers. WHAT MORE COULD YOU POSSIBLY ASK FOR? Renewed youth? The power of second sight? Immortality?

An enthraling journey into a fantasy world
I have been interested in Fritz Leiber for quite some time, but have never been able to find any of his works. Now, thanks to Amazon (a shameless plug, I know), we can obtain all of Leiber's creations concerning the fantasy world of Nehwon. Take the opportunity to read the books; you'll be glad you did. Not a novel, Fritz Leiber's work centers around the (mis)adventures of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, as they explore the world of Nehwon and beyond. This collection introduces the two character's and takes them through a series of adventures as the two become closer than brothers. The best point about Leiber's works is their realistic depictment of the main characters. Although the world itself is fantastic, the characters are quite down-to-earth, not unlike you and me. They are greedy, bawdy DRUNKS, not high lofty knights to which we cannot relate. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the fantasy genre, and to those who haven't read much fantasy, this is an excellent initiation.

Greatest heroes and adventures ever.
This book was my first experience of Lieber's two amazing heroes, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, and I bought it with uncertainty. But right from the start I knew I had made a great choice. The stories are excellent, with fun plots and compelling action. The two main characters quickly became like close friends. Leiber's writing is brilliant; he manages to perfectly mix vivid descriptive language with fast-paced action. I loved this book so much that when I finished it I waited like an addict for the next volume. Highly recommended.
